Oh, that sweet, chewy, soft rice dough wrapped around ice-cream, just melting in your mouth!
Have you ever tried mochi ice-cream before? It is delightfully delicious. If you have a textural issue, it may not be right for you. I, however, love the texture of rice dough.
Mochi began in Japan, it is a Japanese rice cake, made of a short-grain japonica glutinous rice, and sometimes other ingredients such as water, sugar, and cornstarch. It is pounded into shapes and molds and used for various special occasions, as well as making mochi ice-cream.
The mochi itself is wrapped around the ice-cream and kept frozen.
Mochi is typically gluten-free, this is a plus for me.
Over the week, I made a new and exciting discovery on a trip to Sam’s Club. Bubbie’s Mochi Ice-Cream. Completely gluten-free and nut-free.
The Bubbie’s brand has 28 flavors (according to their website). Now, what I found different about Bubbie’s, is that they are in fact a Hawaiin Mochi ice-cream. This simply means that their mochi is slightly thinner than the traditional Japanese mochi wrap used on the mochi ice-cream.
I am really impressed with Bubbie’s. For $2.48, I purchased a box of 12 mochi ice-cream balls, in two flavors (sugar-cookie strawberry and cookie-dough vanilla). This is the cheapest price by far that I have ever seen.
The quality of the product was AMAZING!
On the downside, I have zero self-control, therefore, the 17 carbs and 120 calories in each mochi ball will hit my hips by the weekend I am sure (only 8 added sugars).
I highly recommend these to anyone that loves mochi ice-cream. Have more self-control than I do.
